Flying Lab News

Updated  Aug. 10,  2009

June 1, 2009

The Flying Lab made appearances at both the Urbana High School & Graham High School graduations this year.  Surprising spectators at both events, the Flying Lab was welcomed with cheers as it roared gracefully over the stands saluting the graduates on a job-well-done.  As the Lab continues making  it’s transition from it’s original role as a flying laboratory to an educational tool for generations to come, so too are these graduates making similar transitions in their own lives.  We wish them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors.

Update!

Summer 2009
The Flying Lab Foundation held two events earlier this summer for friends and guests of the Foundation.  Food was served, prizes were raffled, rides were given, and good times were had by all.  It also gave us a chance to remember and give special thanks to former Lab pilot Earl Bennett.  Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us.

July 25th -  Aug 1st
As I am sure most of you know, the Flying Lab made it’s historic debut at the Airventure air show in Oshkosh, WI.  Known for it’s sheer number of aircraft, people, & events, the show was the perfect stage to show off our beautiful restoration.  What better place to represent not only Grimes Field, Grimes Manufacturing, Urbana, and the birthplace of aviation, than an event like this.

Sept 12-13

Grimes Field found itself swamped by both airplanes and people this weekend.  The occasion, MERFI, or Mid Eastern Regional Fly In.  In it’s second year at Urbana, the second longest running fly in in the United States was a great success. The Lab greeted people from all kinds of aviation backgrounds as they arrived by both airplane, and car.  Saturday night the Lab did what it was engineered to do and lit up the night sky in a way that would leave most UFO followers in awe.  CLICK HERE for a few pictures before takeoff.
